Putin Rejects Zelensky's Face-to-Face Meeting Offer on June 5

On June 5, Russian President Vladimir Putin rejected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's offer for direct talks, stating there is currently no need to meet. Putin made the remarks at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, criticizing Zelensky's public letter as containing offensive language and questioning whether the Ukrainian leader genuinely sought negotiations. Putin said experts should first propose concrete solutions before any meeting takes place, adding that Russia will not halt military operations until achieving its strategic objectives.

Zelensky countered that Putin's response demonstrated Moscow's unwillingness to end the war, calling it a weak response that disappointed many in the international community. He urged increased pressure on Russia, including economic sanctions targeting Moscow's revenue sources, to force it back to the negotiating table.
