SK Telecom Plans Up to 15GW of AI Data Centers in Korea, First 5GW by 2029

SK Telecom announced on July 5 that it plans to build up to 15 gigawatts (GW) of AI data center capacity in South Korea to meet rising AI computing demand. The company will open 5GW in stages from 2029 onward, including more than 2GW in the southeastern Gyeongsang region and 1GW in the southwestern Jeolla region, with an initial 1GW-scale project in Ulsan. Funding will come from SK Telecom's investment, partner capital, long-term customer contracts, and project financing. The expansion aligns with South Korean government efforts to develop data centers outside the Seoul metropolitan area.
