According to BlockBeats citing Korean Securities Depository Clearing Corp. data, South Korean investors net-purchased Cambricon (寒武纪), an AI compute chipmaker, for $2.857 million during the week of July 13–19, ranking first among Korean-funded A-share tech stock purchases. The same period saw other Chinese semiconductor firms including SMIC, Landsea Tech, Huahong Grace, and Microquell also receive Korean funding at the million-dollar level.
The buying activity comes as South Korea's KOSPI index retreated sharply in July—dropping from a record high of 9,385 points to near 6,820 points, a decline exceeding 27%—prompting Korean investors to diversify into Chinese tech assets including semiconductors and AI-related infrastructure.
