Swiss Glaciers to Completely Melt by June 29, Three Months Earlier Than Normal

According to Swiss Glacier Monitoring, managed by Matthias Huss, winter snow accumulation on Swiss glaciers will completely melt by June 29, three months earlier than normal. The accelerated melting is driven by an ongoing heat wave across Europe. Huss reported that the Rhône Glacier lost one meter of thickness in just 10 days, describing the pace as "alarming." The June 29 date marks the second-earliest complete melt since monitoring began in 2000, trailing only June 26 in 2022.
