U.S. Court of Appeals Upholds Sam Bankman-Fried's 25-Year Sentence on 7 Fraud Counts

According to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, the court upheld Sam Bankman-Fried's 25-year prison sentence on Friday, rejecting his appeal to overturn the conviction on 7 counts of fraud and conspiracy. The 3-judge panel affirmed that Bankman-Fried knowingly used FTX customer assets while publicly presenting the exchange as financially secure. "The overwhelming evidence presented at trial proved that Bankman-Fried knowingly and intentionally committed large-scale fraud on FTX's customers," the court said. The original conviction was handed down in November 2023 by a New York jury. Bankman-Fried had argued the trial was unfair and should allow additional evidence, but the appeals court rejected those claims.
