According to Fed spokesperson Nick Timiraos on May 8, household survey data showed employment declined by 226,000 and labor force participation fell by 0.1 percentage point to 61.8%. Timiraos noted that the U.S. unemployment rate has not risen because people are exiting the labor market rather than finding jobs.
