According to William Blair and Reuters, the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency denied Wise's national trust bank charter application on July 21 due to incompatibility with new Federal Reserve policies on payment system Master Account access. Reuters reported Friday that Wise plans to resubmit under the GENIUS Act stablecoin framework. William Blair analysts noted that the Federal Reserve has essentially halted the granting of master accounts while developing policies for payment accounts formally proposed in May 2026.
