Zcash Deploys Emergency Update on June 4 to Fix Critical Orchard Pool Vulnerability

ZEC15.05%
According to Odaily Seer, Zcash deployed an emergency network upgrade on June 4 to patch a critical vulnerability in its Orchard privacy pool that could allow attackers to infinitely counterfeit ZEC. The vulnerability cannot be cryptographically proven to have been exploited in the past. Shielded Labs subsequently proposed on June 5 deploying a new privacy pool and conducting strict token exit audits during the July NU7 upgrade to detect any unauthorized token creation. Polymarket has launched a prediction market on whether the vulnerability was exploited before the fix, with settlement occurring if official confirmation is provided by December 31, 2026.
