Lesson 1

Introduction to AI Agents and On-Chain Trading

As the on-chain trading environment becomes increasingly complex, market data, trading paths, and strategy execution demand more from manual operations. Against this backdrop, AI Agents are entering the crypto trading sector, becoming essential tools that connect data, decision-making, and execution.

Definition and Core Capabilities of AI Agents

An AI Agent can be understood as an intelligent program capable of autonomously perceiving its environment, analyzing data, making decisions, and executing actions. In the on-chain trading environment, it is not just a trading bot, but a comprehensive automated decision-making system.

A typical AI Agent generally possesses several core capabilities, including data acquisition, information analysis, strategy decision-making, and trade execution. It can continuously monitor on-chain data, price changes, liquidity conditions, and market sentiment, then automatically make trading decisions based on predefined models or strategies.

From a functional perspective, an AI Agent usually consists of several core modules:

  • Data module: Responsible for collecting on-chain and market data
  • Analysis module: Models data and identifies signals
  • Decision module: Generates trading strategies based on model results
  • Execution module: Completes trading operations on-chain or on exchanges

Therefore, an AI Agent is not a single algorithm, but a complete automated trading system.

Why On-Chain Trading Needs AI Agents

The on-chain trading environment differs significantly from traditional financial markets. For example, trades occur across multiple chains and exchanges, prices change rapidly, arbitrage opportunities are fleeting, and trading paths are complex—all these factors make it difficult for manual trading to maintain efficiency.

In the on-chain market, a trading opportunity may only exist for a few seconds, such as price spreads across exchanges, price deviations between DEX and CEX, or pricing shifts in liquidity pools. Relying on manual operations often fails to complete trades in time, whereas an AI Agent can monitor the market in real time and execute trades automatically.

The main reasons why on-chain trading requires AI Agents include:

  • Large volumes of market data with rapid changes
  • Multiple chains and exchanges create complex trading paths
  • Arbitrage and market-making opportunities are short-lived
  • Automated risk control and position management are necessary

The role of AI Agents in on-chain trading is not just to improve efficiency, but also to make certain trading strategies technically feasible.

The Role of Artificial Intelligence in the Crypto Market

From a broader perspective, the role of artificial intelligence in the crypto market is gradually shifting from “tool” to “participant.” Previously, AI was mainly used for data analysis or quantitative trading; now, in the on-chain financial environment, AI can directly participate in trading, liquidity management, and even governance decisions.

Artificial intelligence primarily acts as a data analyst, trading strategy executor, market maker, and risk management system in the crypto market. Different systems may focus on different functions, but the overall goal is to improve capital utilization and trading efficiency.

AI’s role in the crypto market can be understood across several layers:

  • Data layer: AI is used for data processing and signal identification
  • Strategy layer: AI is used for strategy generation and optimization
  • Execution layer: AI is used for trading path and order optimization
  • Risk layer: AI is used for position management and risk control

As on-chain financial systems continue to evolve, the future market may see a large number of automated trading and financial activities driven by AI Agents, gradually shifting the market structure from “human-dominated trading” to a new structure where “humans and AI participate together.”
