The founder of Inversion Capital, Santiago Roel Santos, warns that the rapid integration of prediction markets into mainstream financial platforms can create a “gambling-like” experience, which may accelerate the rate at which users abandon the platform. Although prediction markets are becoming increasingly popular, Santos believes that the short-term increase in engagement often comes at the expense of long-term sustainability.
He argued that gambling products do not fail because users lose money, but because they increase the risk of “account depletion,” causing users to leave the ecosystem permanently. According to Santos, a user who has left is no longer of long term value.
Santos believes that platforms like Robinhood should prioritize simplicity, accessibility, and sustainable growth rather than maximizing short term profits. He emphasizes that products like savings accounts, insurance, or credit cards create long-term relationships as they are tied to daily financial management. If sustainability is the goal, the strategy needs to focus on long term viability, not over-exploitation.
