Gate News message, April 22 — Base announced its first independent network upgrade, Base Azul, which has gone live on testnet with a mainnet activation target date of May 13, 2026. This marks Base’s first network-level upgrade conducted independently of the OP Stack.
The Azul upgrade will enhance security, performance, and developer experience through multiple improvements: enabling a multi-proof mechanism, designating base-reth-node as the sole execution client, and adopting the latest execution layer specification (Osaka) to maintain alignment with Ethereum. No user action is required for this upgrade.
Base also announced two additional upcoming upgrades scheduled for late June (focused on performance) and late August (focused on user experience). Additionally, Base Vibenet, a public development network for developers to test upcoming features and provide early feedback, will launch in mid-May.
