Tether Freezes $344 Million in USDT on Tron in Coordination with OFAC and U.S. Law Enforcement

Gate News message, April 23 — Tether froze more than $344 million in USDT across two Tron addresses on April 23 in coordination with the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and U.S. law enforcement agencies. The stablecoin issuer said the action followed information linked to sanctions evasion, criminal networks, and other unlawful conduct. CEO Paolo Ardoino stated that “USDT is not a safe haven for illicit activity” and that Tether acts quickly when credible links to sanctioned entities or criminal actors are identified.

Blockchain security firm PeckShield identified the two Tron wallets — TNiq9…QZH81 and TTiDL…pjSr9 — as blacklisted on April 23. The first address held approximately $213 million in USDT while the second held roughly $131 million, totaling more than $344 million. Tether did not disclose details of the underlying investigation or when the wallets were initially flagged by authorities.

The freeze is reportedly the largest by size in Tether’s history and reflects an escalating enforcement trend. Tether now works with more than 340 law enforcement agencies across 65 countries, has supported over 2,300 cases globally, and has frozen more than $4.4 billion in assets overall, including more than $2.1 billion tied to U.S. authorities. In November 2023, Tether froze approximately $225 million linked to a Southeast Asia human-trafficking and “pig butchering” investigation. In January 2026, it froze roughly $182 million across five Tron wallets in another law-enforcement-coordinated action.
