Never let your compassion run rampant; don't worry about others, even if they are your relatives. The understanding formed by a person over many years cannot be awakened by just a few words from you. The Dao De Jing says that one should assist the natural order of all things without daring to impose. An overflow of compassion is a calamity, and the desire to be a teacher to others is a curse. In this world, if you water flowers too diligently, the roots will surely rot; if you pull up seedlings to help them grow, they will surely wither; and if you interfere forcefully, it will lead to disaster. Most people only love to hear sweet words, even if they are poison wrapped in honey, but they hate unpleasant truths, even if they are bitter but lifesaving remedies. What can truly help a person is never the reasoning of others, but the blood they shed after hitting the wall themselves—the lesson that pierces to the bone is the true scripture engraved in life.
