As a leading company in the Japanese electronics and entertainment industry, Sony has now joined the wave of exploring blockchain technology. On Tuesday, the electronic giant with a 78-year history announced that its Ethereum Layer2 blockchain 'Soneium' mainnet is officially online.
Soneium is jointly launched by Sony Group and Singaporean Web3 infrastructure developer Startale Labs. The two parties have also established a joint venture called Sony Block Solutions Labs (SBSL).
Soneium was the first to launch the testnet in August last year, accumulating over 15.4 million active wallet addresses and surpassing 50 million transactions. These data not only demonstrate the explosive power of the Soneium ecosystem but also lay a solid foundation for the mainnet launch.
The SBSL team described Soneium as a "highly flexible general-purpose blockchain platform" that can support a diverse ecosystem of applications including games, finance, entertainment, etc., providing users with more powerful technical support. The official statement mentions: Soneium is an open public chain, and anyone can participate without any threshold.
