According to Bitcoin.com, nine European regulators—Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, and Switzerland—pledged coordinated enforcement against unlicensed prediction markets on June 17. The joint statement warned sports bodies, leagues, and teams to verify a platform's legality before entering partnerships, citing concerns over round-the-clock access, absent stake limits, and weak age checks.

The declaration follows Kalshi's June 10 sponsorship deal with Argentina's football federation and a June 14 promotional push via Lionel Messi's Instagram. Spain's gambling regulator already ordered internet providers on May 26 to block both Kalshi and Polymarket during its investigation into whether their products constitute unlicensed gambling.
