Portugal Issues Heat Wave Alert, 12 Regions Enter Red Alert as Temperatures Reach 47°C

According to Portugal's Institute of Sea and Atmosphere, Portugal's government issued a heat wave alert on July 1 to strengthen wildfire controls and protect vulnerable populations. Starting July 2, 12 of the country's 18 regions will enter red alert status, expected to last until at least July 4, while the remaining 6 regions will be under orange alert. Maximum temperatures are forecast to reach 47 degrees Celsius.
