A U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding stipulates that Iran will ensure commercial vessels can safely transit between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman toll-free within the 60-day window. Beyond that period, the strait's management framework will be established through dialogue between Iran and Oman, in consultation with other Gulf coastal states.
