Zelensky Proposes Meeting with Putin on July 5, Russia Responds on Terms

On July 5, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky proposed meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Konstantinovka, a contested town in eastern Ukraine's Donetsk region, if it falls under Russian control. Russia responded that the city is already under full Russian control and offered Moscow as an alternative meeting venue, pending Zelensky making a "major and responsible decision." Earlier, Zelensky spoke with U.S. President Donald Trump to arrange talks during an upcoming NATO summit, while Putin also spoke with Trump, reiterating his preference for a political settlement to the conflict and saying Trump would continue mediating between Moscow and Kyiv.
