The blockchain-based service that simplifies address solutions Ethereum Name Service (ENS) announced that it plans to develop its own Layer 2 network called Namechain using Linea’s advanced technology stack.
Ethereum Name Service ‘Namechain’ Partners with Linea to Build Layer 2 Network
ENS has chosen Linea, a Layer 2 solution based on zkEVM, due to its full compatibility with Ethereum’s existing smart contracts and tools.
As shared in a recent blog post by ENS, zkEVM technology enables reliable and seamless interactions between Ethereum’s Layer 1 and the new Namechain Layer 2.
Linea is also recognized as the first Layer 2 team implementing a trust-minimized version of ERC-3668 and providing decentralized cross-chain name resolution for ENS subdomains.
Linea platform is supported by Consensys, a leading Ethereum-focused research and development firm.
Namechain initiative is at the heart of ENSv2, an upgrade introduced earlier this year aiming to increase the scalability and purchasability of Ethereum Name Service.
Layer 2 Adoption: Domain name registrations and renewals will reduce transaction costs and increase efficiency by transitioning to Layer 2 Name Chain.
Layer 1 Integration: Name resolution services will remain on Ethereum Layer 1 to maintain the decentralized infrastructure and compatibility of ENS.
The transition to Layer 2 is expected to increase ENS’s processing capacity for larger volume domain name registrations and renewals, improving overall user experience and cost efficiency.
Namechain aims to further expand its usage in decentralized finance (DeFi), non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and other blockchain-based ecosystems with ENS.
This development underscores ENS’s commitment to being at the forefront of blockchain innovation while maintaining compatibility with Ethereum’s core network.
