Touch to install the intelligent inquiry robot into the mobile phone, wave to travel to the future city in virtual reality, scan to immediately view the personalized health plan of the AI assistant… The integration of artificial intelligence with various industries is deepening, injecting strong power into high-quality development.

According to the data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, as of July 30, 2024, there have been 197 registered AI large models nationwide, with general large models and industry-specific large models accounting for 31% and 69% respectively. Industry-specific large models cover traditional fields such as education, finance, office, government affairs, and healthcare, and are expanding to broader scenarios such as media, recruitment, home decoration, and psychology, making the types of industry-specific large models increasingly diverse.

“With the vigorous development of artificial intelligence, its integration with the real economy is becoming increasingly important,” said Wei Kai, director of the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute of the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, at the fifth China Artificial Intelligence Competition results release conference. It is necessary to accelerate the supply-demand docking between industries, promote the rapid integration of artificial intelligence technology into various industries, and thus significantly improve the efficiency and innovation capabilities of various industries.

From “artificial intelligence” to “artificial intelligence+”, new business formats are gradually forming, and application scenarios are gradually refining. Various places are gradually exploring and focusing on the development of the artificial intelligence empowerment industry, and initial results are emerging.

Taking Xiamen as an example, ‘We attach great importance to the development of ‘AI+’ because Xiamen does not have any particular ‘innate advantages’ in the core technology research and development of artificial intelligence, such as chips and basic large models. However, we focus on the empowerment of artificial intelligence in various industries, and our advantages are gradually emerging.’ said Xu Wengong, deputy director of Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Data Management.

Traveling on the roads of Xiamen, behind every traffic light is a ‘smart brain’. 100% of the city’s traffic lights are interconnected and controlled, enabling ‘automatic diagnosis, proactive intervention, dynamic control, and effectiveness evaluation’; when entering scenic spots, XR immersive spaces, AI intelligent portraits, and AR interactive activities allow visitors to experience the ‘Qin Island Adventure’ with movie-level visual effects through highly immersive, mobile, and entertaining interactive designs; at Xiamen University’s smart ocean laboratory, numerous fish and corals swim freely under the ‘gaze’ of AI, and what used to take several days to identify fish and corals can now be completed in less than 40 minutes, with an identification accuracy rate of 99%, significantly improving the efficiency of marine ecological monitoring…

The dual-wheel drive of application promotion and core R&D is dedicated to opening up the “artery” of intelligent empowerment in Xiamen. “At the policy level, it is necessary to promote the coordinated development of core R&D and industrial application of artificial intelligence technology.” Xu Wengong said that Xiamen provides annual support of 50 million yuan and a maximum subsidy of 1 million yuan for “computing power vouchers” to support business R&D; subsidies for the expansion of smart computing scale and the development of related intelligent scene applications are also gradually being issued.

The development of artificial intelligence needs to be promoted rapidly, but the parallel security guarantee should not be ignored. Chen Wentao, Senior Business Director of the Security and Metaverse Department of the Artificial Intelligence Research Center of the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, said that in order to ensure the high-quality development of the artificial intelligence-enabled industry, it is necessary to achieve healthy and sustainable development within the framework of ensuring basic security.

The “Interim Measures for the Administration of Generative Artificial Intelligence Services” clarify the main principles for the supervision of generative artificial intelligence services; the “Methods for Identifying AI-generated Synthetic Content (Draft for Solicitation of Comments)” elaborate on the identification criteria for AI-generated synthetic content… In recent years, relevant departments have steadily moved forward in adapting policies to the changes in production development brought about by artificial intelligence, promoting the pace of “good governance” to drive “good intelligence”.

Prevent intelligent cameras from ‘stealing’ privacy, and let network security products such as ‘AI face swapping’ and ‘AI voice changing’ be nowhere to hide; the development of AI dynamic strategy adjustment for data leakage prevention system continues to advance… All parties are working together to use technological innovation to address the abuse of artificial intelligence, and the exploration of ‘using technology to counter technology’ and the gradual deepening of technology ‘towards goodness’.

Wei Kai believes that “focusing on the future, technological innovation, and ecological synergy are the key drivers for the sustainable development of artificial intelligence.” He believes that we should adhere to application traction, innovation-driven development, and ecological cultivation.
