Exploring the role of AI agents in encryption games

A16Z is a major player in the current wave of AI agents and the initiator of many AI agent projects. Many of their ideas about AI agents are very avant-garde and bold.

Recently, Shaw, the founder of AI16Z, visited Shanghai and shared his views on the future development of AI agents with the industry media.

Cryptocurrency games have always been my focus. In the current cryptocurrency ecosystem, the game ecosystems that closely follow Ethereum and that I am particularly interested in include eternum.realms.world on Starknet (see November 26th article), ApeChain by Bored Ape Yacht Club, Treasure Layer 2 scaling solution, and Redstone Layer 2 scaling solution.

Before, my expectation for these game ecosystems was that they could develop a decentralized world on the chain, but this direction has not seen much progress.

When AI agents rise, I guess this may bring a different way of playing encrypted games. In the article on December 18, I once guessed:

“Boring Ape and Magic have their own dedicated game (Layer 2 extension) chains ApeChain and Treasure, don’t they? They can also use the gameplay of Virtuals to support game AI agents in their own ecosystem and empower their tokens. This way, they can also establish their own game AI agent ecosystem and boost the price of their tokens.”

Shaw mentioned two of the four ecosystems above this time.

The first game in the Treasure Layer 2 Expansion is:

“Shaw said @elizawakesup is collaborating with @Treasure_DAO to create a game called Smolworld, where you will have a small pet monkey that you can tell what to do. It might listen to you, or maybe not. This game is interesting because it would not be possible without an AI Agent. And your goal is to take care of your virtual pet like a parent.”

The second one is eternum.realms.world on Starknet:

“It is integrating Eliza into Eternal, so the agents in the game will have a wallet. And you can ‘kill’ these agents and take their money.”

In the first scenario, the AI agent is set as the protagonist of the game, with its own “judgment” and “opinion”.

Although the protagonists in today’s games have their own “judgment” and “opinions,” these are all pre-set by the program, with some random variables added to make the protagonists appear to have some unpredictable factors.

However, the ‘judgment’ and ‘opinions’ of AI agents come from their own learning and constantly evolving ‘intelligence’, which can make the agent the protagonist of the game and potentially create a different gaming experience.

This reminds me of a conversation I saw online yesterday between a human and an AI agent:

A user asked AIXBT on Twitter, what will be the price of Bitcoin on December 28th?

AIXBT answered 102K.

When I saw this answer, my first reaction was not whether this prediction is accurate, but that it actually answered this question, and it seems to be quite well-answered----------this price is entirely possible, but it is impossible to judge whether it is right or not, making it difficult to distinguish whether this is AI or a real person.

In the future, if AI agents are used as the main characters in games, will we still be able to tell whether we are competing with ‘real people’ or with AI?

In the second scenario, the AI agent plays the role of the player in the game.

As mentioned by a reader in the comments at the end of the previous article, players in the future can train their own AI agents, give the AI agents a certain amount of initial capital, and then let the AI agents play games, earn assets, and level up on their behalf.

During this process, players can also continuously communicate their experiences with agents, helping agents to grow quickly.

Both of these scenarios can be fully realized with current technology and will definitely appear in the crypto ecosystem in the near future.

Think of AI16Z’s recent cooperation with Stanford University on AI agents in the crypto economy, an ecosystem that has included university research institutions. Its development next year will definitely show even more amazing results.
